A deployable structure that blurs the lines between art, architecture, and engineering. This proposal for an installation in a public park environment boasts a simple yet captivating design, employing angulated scissor mechanisms that resemble the graceful arcs of a fountain spray frozen in time. Its recognizable form evokes a sense of fluidity and dynamism as if caught mid-surge, ready to burst forth with creativity and energy. In its deployed state, the pavilion rises upward, offering a soaring canopy that beckons visitors to gather underneath. The symmetrical sections of the scissor mechanisms create a mesmerizing half-arch pattern that embraces the surrounding landscape, harmoniously blending with nature’s grandeur. Through thoughtful design, multiple “Fountain” structures can be aggregated to form a repeating colonnade. This rhythmic arrangement draws people in, igniting a sense of community and fostering a shared experience.
Design Proposals:
The structural grid could be infilled with a patchwork of foldable cladding elements, creating an interplay of light and shadow through the intricate lattice-like network of the scissor mechanisms and providing an atmosphere of interiority beneath the canopy.
